Bangladesh weather is typically tropical monsoon, its hot, rainy summers and dry winters being its main characteristics. Another major feature of Bangladesh weather is the great fluctuation in seasonal rainfall, as well as its warm temperatures and high levels of humidity. In sharp contrast to variations in rainfall patters, weather in Bangladesh is also renowned  by the rather insignificant difference in conditions across the country.

To better comprehend the peculiarities of Bangladesh weather, it’s better to divide the year into three easily recognized seasons: between March and June summer reigns supreme, characterized by hot and humid conditions; Bangladesh’ s cool, rainy monsoon season commences in late June and runs all the way through to October, while winter falls between October and March, being a time when cool and dry conditions prevail.

Weather in Bangladesh is also characterized by heavy rainfall, the bulk of which (roughly around 80%) falls during the monsoon season. Most parts of the country receive at least 200cm of precipitation per year, with the notable exception of Rajshahi, a dry region in the west of the country, where rainfall levels drop to around 160cm.  Most of the precipitation falls in region of Sylhet in northeastern Bangladesh; this is a direct result of the area’s location in the southern foothills of the Himalayas , where monsoon winds turn west and northwest.  The southwest monsoon usually commences in June lasting all the way through to September.

Another unfortunate aspect of Bangladesh weather is the frequent occurrence of natural calamities (tidal bores, tropical cyclones, tornadoes and floods) that ravage the country, often with devastating effects. These damages are most apparent in the coastal districts of Bangladesh, especially those caused by cyclones which often result in the loss of life and property.  The normal patterns of weather in Bangladesh are interrupted by highly intensive winds, both early in the summer season and late in the monsoon season.
